Come up with a number you would behappy with before negotiation starts (i.e. salary, equity, bonus)
Don't say your number first
Shoot high and let them bring it down. But if you shoot low, there is no chance of going up
If you don't value yourself, some people might, but not as high as your true value
You are a rounding error when dealing with big companies. Asking for an extra $10,000 or $20,000 may seem like a big deal for you, but they don't care, they have bigger things to deal with
Ask for more than you feel comfortable with
You'll probably feel like you could have asked for more in the end so do so upfront
