  • Goal - the object of a person's ambition or effort; an aim or desired result.

  • Goals are more aspirational. They are goals, lol. They are a direction for many of your actions to align with. A longer term objective that you work toward and hopefully, eventually accomplish.

  • Resolution - a firm decision to do or not to do something.

  • Resolutions are decisions. I will do this and I won't do that. They are within your control. If you really want them, you have the power to make them happen.

  • I wonder why our society puts much more emphasis on resolutions, especially around the new year, instead of goals. Black and white decisions, rather than ambitions we can constantly work towards.

  • If you mess up a resolution, it's over. You said you weren't going to do something and you did. Or, you said you were going to do something and you didn't. It's over. You messed up.

  • If you mess up a goal, it's not over. That would just one outcome or action on a long pursuit of a result. You can try again. You can keep putting in more effort and working toward your goal.

  • Goals take the pressure of being perfect off. You can keep working on them. Every action bring more progress and something to be proud of.

  • We should practice a balance of resolutions and goals. Resolutions we can accomplish, that we really want to stick to, that we will live up to. Goals we can strive for, that will bring many positive actions along the way, and a result we would love to see and work towards.
